Victoria
To avoid confusion, anyone living in Saanich or the West Shore communities simply respond with "Victoria" when asked by out-of-towners where they live. It's just easier than explaining the dozen or so municipalities that make up the Capital Region.
Victoria, by definition, is the Capital City of British Columbia and houses the majestic Legislature building, Inner Harbour, Fisherman's Wharf, Fairmont's Empress Hotel, and the downtown corridor. Comprised of just 19.45 square kilometers, the City of Victoria boasts numerous options for housing. Waterfront, multi-family, hi-rise, condominium, duplex....Victoria covers all the bases. Established neighborhoods such as Rockland, Gonzales, and Fairfield embrace the live-where-you-work attitude with prominent bike and walking trails being the predominant means of commuting.
Victoria is home to a vibrant arts community with many galleries, festivals, and events happening throughout the year. Let's not forget Ogden Point where huge cruise ships dock, and the charming sound of the seaplanes in the Inner Harbour whisking passengers to and from Vancouver, Seattle, Tofino and Whistler.
A trip to Victoria is not complete without a walk through Fisherman's Wharf along the waterfront past the Legislature building ending on the shops of Government Ave. Imagine if this was part of your daily life? Heavenly. And a distinct possibility.
